SMI has completed the installation and commissioning of steam system improvements for the VISN 11 hospital network in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. The project included investment grade survey and testing of over 5,000 steam traps, and the installation of over 3,000 steam traps. Steam Management identified failed steam traps and specified components manufactured by Armstrong, Sarco, Watts McDaniel, Hoffman Specialties/ITT, Tunstall, Illinois and Barnes & Jones. In addition to steam traps, SMI installed new isolation valves, strainers with blow-down valves and fittings in accordance with VA specifications.
In total, SMI installed over 4,000 steam traps and components. Over 700 steam traps were high and medium pressure traps installed with a new valve to valve piping configurations. In addition to steam trap, SMI installed over 300 radiator control valves.
