Operations Program Manager

(SMI) is a premier energy and water conservation EPC contractor providing custom design/build solutions to commercial, institutional, municipal and industrial facilities nationwide.  Our projects include in-house survey, design, engineering, project management, commissioning, and on-going service of complex multi-discipline turnkey projects.   

OPERATIONS PROGRAM MANAGER - JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Operations Program Manager (OPM) will manage the operations department tasked with installing and commissioning energy conservation projects for our customers.  The OPM is responsible for the overall daily workflow of the project supervisors and direct management of larger engineered solutions in the commercial and industrial space. The OPM is responsible for project review and planning, project budgeting and forecasting, contractor sourcing, solicitation, selection and quotations, company resource allocation and customer communication. This position will have 5 – 8 reports initially including project supervisors, a field service manager, and a purchasing manager. This position will require building and managing the department to support the company’s growth. In addition, the OPM will be expected to interface with engineering during the development phase of projects. The role at times may require accessing spaces which will require some physical fitness. 

This challenging and demanding role is a pivotal leadership position in our rapidly growing energy conservation services company.  In this role you will have frequent interaction with sales and engineering through the life cycle of our projects and be forward facing our customers and their clients.  

Responsibilities 

Resource Management 

  • Maintain operations department staffing levels to meet project demands 

  • Evaluating employees with performance and compensation reviews 

  • Promote project culture that are consistent with SMI values 

Project Delivery  

  • Assist in design and development of new projects and pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs 

  • Development of JHA, work plans and MS Project master schedules 

  • Direct involvement in project scope development 

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, labor tracking, and cost alerts 

  • Prepare and maintain project schedule including participation in development and regular updates with team members and customer stakeholders 

  • Conduct weekly project team meeting meetings with owner, design team members, jurisdictional authorities, and construction team members 

  • Responsible for project adherence to contracted scope of work as well as participate in preconstruction process as necessary 

  • Responsible for client management throughout procurement, construction, and post-construction processes 

  • Direct onsite presence as needed to gain full understanding of staff, customers, contractors and scopes of work   

  • Deliver completed projects in accordance with contractual obligations and scope of work 

Financial Accountability  

  • Participate in department budgeting  

  • Accountable and incentivized on project performance 

  • Review, confirm, and approve weekly billings to SMI 

  • Maintain compliance of weekly expenses for all direct reports with company policies 

Quality Assurance  

  • Ensure project installations are in accordance with engineering designs 

  • Uphold Steam Management’s Standards of Quality and Excellence 

  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors and mechanical contractors 
    Maintain safety practices in compliance with SMI procedures in all aspects of job performance 

  • Assists in development and implementation of quality assurance plans during the design and construction phases and seeks to align client expectations into this process 

  • Responsible for organizing, reviewing, and maintaining project documentation for 100% accuracy and financial accountability 

  • Develop and manage departmental reporting guidelines to include daily installation documentation, daily written project updates, daily and weekly email communications within and outside of the organization, daily and weekly safety briefings and meetings 

  • Maintain open lines of communication with customer, subcontractor, and SMI management 

  • Adhere to/comply with the company's EEO policies and affirmative action obligations

Qualifications 

  • B.A. degree or minimum ten-years’ experience in construction management or related equivalent work experience 

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite – MS Project, Outlook, Excel 

  • Effective communication and technical writing skills  

  • Ability to work independently and remotely 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with all project stakeholders 

  • Travel nationwide as needed, for extended duration projects with weekend travel home 

  • Plumbing + Mechanical skills, steam / hydronic system maintenance experience a plus 

Salary Range: $120 – 150k (including comps, bonus, and incentive) 

This is a salaried position.
