Common Payback Drivers

Failing steam traps waste steam, reduce system efficiency, and increase fuel costs. By identifying and repairing or replacing malfunctioning traps, facilities can quickly reduce energy losses, often with paybacks under 2 years. Typical failure rates exceed 20–30% in aging systems

Uninsulated valves, fittings, and piping in steam and hot water systems account for significant thermal losses. Installing or upgrading conventional and removable insulation delivers safety and performance improvements and fast, measurable energy savings, often with paybacks under 3 years.

Additional Efficiency Improvement Scopes to Strengthen Your Project

  • Upgrading to linkage-less burners improves combustion efficiency and reduces maintenance costs.

    Save 5-10% in fuel costs

  • Allows individual control of room temperatures, reducing energy consumption of radiators and fintubes when rooms are unoccupied.

    Save 10-15% on heating costs

  • New boilers offer improved efficiency and reliability compared to older models.

    Save 5-15% in fuel costs

  • Upgrading to energy-efficient RTUs reduces HVAC energy consumption.

Save 10-30% on HVAC energy costs

  • Upgrading to condensing units for refrigeration systems improves energy efficiency.

Save 15-30% on unit energy costs

  • Refurbishing AHUs enhances airflow efficiency and reduces energy consumption.

Save 15-30% in unit energy costs

  • Condensing boilers capture additional heat from flue gases, increasing efficiency.

    Save 10-20% in heating costs

  • Refurbishing unit ventilators improves energy efficiency and indoor air quality control.

    Save 10-20% in energy costs

  • Installing DDC valves allows for precise control of heating and cooling systems, optimizing energy use.

Save 10-20% on HVAC energy costs

  • Installing low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets to reduce water usage.

Save up to 30% reduction in water consumption

  • Combining a hybrid boiler with heat pump for hot water system heating enhances efficiency utilizing the heat pump during ideal conditions while maintaining heating capability during colder weather.

    Save 20-40% in heating costs

  • Retrofitting motors with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) improves energy efficiency by matching motor speed to demand.

    Save 10-30% in energy costs

Contracting Approaches to Match Your Workflow

  1. Paid Audit: The ESCO pays upfront for the development of the audit and project scope.

  2. Deferred Risk: A shared-risk approach where payment for the audit is deferred to the construction phase. This includes a breakage fee if the project does not proceed.

  3. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU): We work under an MOU framework, which can take two forms:

    1. MOU with Breakage Fee: We provide services at-risk but are reimbursed through a breakage fee if the project does not move forward.

    2. MOU Without Breakage Fee: We commit at-risk, with no initial payment, supported by a written agreement.

  4. At-Risk: Audit at no cost, if ESCO secures the project we are brought in as a partner to execute the work.
